This research programme will support growth in New Zealand’s venison industry via:

2. Incrasing on farm productivity (currently low and static).

Deer Progeny Test - AgResearch
Project that identifies and records deer performance and production traits in progeny raised in different commercial herds from a selection of stags. Outputs will be breeding values available on DEERSelect that enable objective comparison between stags (and indeed breeds) in a terminal carcass evaluation system and a maternal (replacement) system.

Latest DEERSelect Sire Summaries (Apr 2015) - AgResearch
Summary lists of sire breeding values calculated from a single analysis of information from herds located around New Zealand. This analysis enables the genetic performance of the sires used in these herds to be compared on the same basis, after differences in environment have been removed. Sortable spreadsheet and sorted lists of sire summaries. Data as at 2 March 2015.

Research consortium including AgResearch, Meat and Wool NZ, Fonterra, Wrightson and DEEResearch investigating options to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions from cattle, sheep and deer.
